CALABRIA CAL AIR Wakeboard Boat

The Cal Air is a high-end multi-purpose boat with a split personality. It produces both a great slalom wake and awesome pro-level wakes for the family also looking to wakeboarding. This boat is plush, luxurious and loaded with features, the best of which is built into the floor. The Cal-Air uses Calabria’s patented integrated ballast system. With a push of a switch the release valves open and the ballast tanks immediately flood with 700 pounds of water—in about 45 seconds. It empties in a third of that time just by driving with the valves open. This means the boat goes from slalom to wakeboarding and back much quicker than any other boat on the market. Another invisible feature is that the gas tank is located forward, where other manufacturers put unusable floor storage lockers guaranteed to soak anything put in them. This assists in giving the Cal-Air incredible storage room in the rear trunk.

More visible comfort features include standard removable jump seats, a recessed driver’s foot well, Ergonomically designed drivers helm with a fully appointed dash, and polished stainless steel tower. It’s as comfortable to lounge in as it is to ride behind.

OVERVIEW by WaterskiMAG.com

Calabria's multi-activity tow boat combines the convenience of crossover wakes wrapped in a comfortable, tight, stylish package. The fit and finish in this 330 horsepower direct-drive are impeccable. The Cal Air keeps a sleek, low profile in the water and has a slick gelcoat that is nothing short of beautiful.     A stainless-steel windshield surrounds a cockpit that offers a polished gauge package, stereo controls on the steering wheel and lots of legroom for the driver. Whether it's skis or boards you're hauling, the rear storage area can handle it, with capacity that's above average for a boat of this class.

Riders will be stoked about the custom Calabria tower — which features a new swooped-back design this year — and the lightning-fast filling and draining capacity of the PureVert ballast system that lets you collect or dump up to 700 pounds of weight to sculpt just the right wakes for your session.

SKIING

Mid-level skiers will get the most out of these wakes. Tracking for this hull rated high, and the Cal Air gives you a decent wake size for slalom, with a touch of firmness from 15 through 32 off. Throttle control requires a little more attention since the armrest sits high.

WAKEBOARDING

Our testers found that the wakes had the best ramps with a little more weight in the bow. With this ballast-weighting tweak, the transitions were pretty good. The landing zone has a slight trough, and you can expect a steeper lip when you hit double-ups.

LOWDOWN

• The PureVert ballast system is out of the way, and it fills and drains lightning fast, even without pumps or tanks.

• Safety is increased with grab rails available for every seat in the boat.

• The observer's seat is easy to open with the help of a gas strut, and it hides massive storage space.

• Not only do you get a huge swim platform, but foilers are spoiled with a specialized hydrofoil slot for stress-free entry.
